Water damage restoration near you in Shreveport and Bossier City

Most of the water calls we get start in one of five ways.

A pipe splits in a freeze. Hard freezes are not frequent here, but they do real damage when they come: in the February 2021 winter storms, broken mains and pipes left most of Shreveport's water customers without service. Pipes in attics, outside walls and crawl spaces are the ones that split, often overnight or while the family is at work.

The water heater gives out. Tanks in garages, hall closets and attics fail at the bottom seam, and the water runs under the walls into the next room before anyone sees it.

A slab or supply leak. A slow leak under a slab house shows up as a warm patch on the floor, a jump in the water bill, or flooring that starts to cup.

Rain gets in. Spring storms drive rain past old windows, flashing and shingles, and it soaks the attic insulation and the ceiling sheetrock first.

The crawl space floods. Heavy rain on clay soil fills the crawl space under raised houses, and the damp works its way up into the floor framing.

Whichever it was, the sooner the water is out, the smaller and cheaper the job.

Before we get there: protect the house and the claim

Shut off the water at the main valve, or the breaker for an electric water heater. Lift furniture legs onto foil or wood blocks, and pull rugs, boxes and anything made of paper off the wet floor. Keep the AC fan from blowing through a soaked room so the damp does not travel through the ducts. Photograph the water, the source and the damaged things before anything is moved, because the adjuster will ask for them. Then call us.

How we dry a house out

Map the water. Water spreads sideways under flooring and down inside wall cavities, so we trace it with a moisture meter and a thermal camera, room by room, and mark where it stops.

Pull out the standing water. Extractors take the water out of carpet, pad and hard floors. Carpet pad, soaked insulation and swollen particleboard are removed, because they hold water and never dry back to sound.

Set up drying. Air movers push air across wet surfaces while dehumidifiers pull the water back out of that air. We read the framing, subfloor and sheetrock every day and move the equipment until the readings are normal. In a Shreveport summer that usually takes three to five days.

Save what can be saved. Hardwood dried quickly and evenly often lies flat again. Sheetrock that was wet for less than a couple of days can usually stay. Cabinets, doors and trim are dried and checked one at a time.

Stop mold before it starts. Surfaces that got wet are cleaned and treated before the walls are closed up. If the water sat too long and growth has started, the job switches to mold remediation after a flood or leak, with containment and an independent air test at the end, since Louisiana does not allow one company to both assess and remediate mold on the same property.

Paper trail. Moisture readings from the first day and the last, photos, the equipment log and the cause of the loss, laid out the way adjusters want to see them.

Clean water, grey water and floodwater are different jobs

What the water was decides how much has to come out. A supply line, a water heater or rain through the roof is clean water, and most of what it touched can be dried and kept. Overflow from a washing machine, dishwasher or tub is grey water, so the carpet, pad and other porous things it reached are removed. Sewage, or floodwater that has crossed a yard or a street, is treated as contaminated: everything porous it touched comes out, and the area is disinfected before drying begins. You hear which one you have on the first visit, because it changes both the quote and the claim.

What water damage restoration costs in Shreveport

Extracting and drying a single room usually runs $1,200 to $3,500. A whole floor, or a crawl space that took on water, runs $3,500 to $10,000. The price moves with how much water there was, how long it sat, which category it was, and how much material has to be removed. If mold has already started, the remediation is priced separately; see the cost page. Damage from a sudden event is the kind of claim many homeowner policies cover, your adjuster decides, and our paperwork is set up for it.

Prices on this page are estimates from previous work. We cannot quote an exact price. The actual cost can be lower or higher depending on the job. The person who knows is the professional who will do the work. You get a written quote after we see the house.

Water damage and mold: what Shreveport homeowners ask

How fast does mold grow after a water leak?

In Shreveport humidity, growth can begin on wet sheetrock, wood and carpet pad within about 48 hours. If the water is out and drying has started inside that window, it is a dry-out. After that, it is usually mold remediation as well.

Is a water stain on the ceiling a sign of mold?

Not always, but it means water got into the sheetrock, and wet ceiling board above a stain is a common place for mold to start out of sight. A moisture reading tells you whether it is still wet, and a look above the ceiling tells you whether growth has begun.

How much does water damage restoration cost in Shreveport?

One room usually runs $1,200 to $3,500, and a whole floor or a flooded crawl space $3,500 to $10,000. Grey water, sewage and outside floodwater cost more because more material has to be removed. Mold remediation is priced separately if growth has already started.

Will insurance cover mold from water damage?

Water damage from a sudden event, like a burst pipe, a failed water heater or storm damage to the roof, is often covered, and mold that follows directly from that event is sometimes included. Slow leaks, long-term humidity and outside flooding without a flood policy usually are not. Your adjuster makes the call; we supply the moisture readings, photos and cause of loss.

How long does it take to dry out a house?

Most rooms take three to five days of drying in the summer, checked daily with a meter. Crawl spaces and soaked hardwood can take longer. The equipment comes out when the readings are back to normal, not on a fixed day.

Can wet sheetrock be saved?

If it was clean water and the sheetrock was wet for less than a couple of days, it can often be dried in place. If it sagged, crumbles, smells musty, or got wet from grey water or floodwater, it is cut out and replaced.

Do you handle the mold if it has already started?

Yes. The drying job turns into a remediation: the area is sealed off, the damaged material is removed, the wood is cleaned and treated, and an independent assessor tests the air before the work area is opened up. See post-flood mold remediation.
