Emergency & Post-Flood Mold Remediation in Shreveport, LA
Floodwater in the den after a storm, a tornado that opened the roof, a supply line that burst while the family was away: once a house has been wet for a couple of days in Shreveport humidity, the question stops being how to dry it and becomes how much mold has already started. Mold after a flood or leak is handled differently from a fresh spill. The wet material that has started growing comes out under containment, the framing is cleaned and treated, and the house is dried and tested before anything is rebuilt. Call (318) 666-4874.
Mold from water damage: why day two matters
Caught in the first day or two, clean water. This is still a dry-out: standing water extracted, carpet pad and soaked insulation removed, and everything else dried in place against a meter. Sheetrock, hardwood and cabinets are often saved. That job is covered on the water damage restoration page.
Past that, or water from outside. Growth has usually begun, or the water carried dirt and bacteria with it. Sheetrock that was wet is cut out to about a foot above the water line, carpet and pad come out, and wet wall insulation is removed, all inside a sealed work area with filtered air.
Sewer backup or river water. Everything porous that the water touched is removed, and the space is disinfected before drying starts. This is the situation where waiting costs the most.
What to do before the crew arrives
Turn off the main water valve, and the power to any room where water has reached the outlets. Get a tarp over an open roof. Photograph the water line on the walls, the damaged contents and the source before anything is moved, because the adjuster will want them. Keep the AC fan from pulling air through the wet rooms so the damp does not travel through the ducts. Then call.
How post-flood mold remediation is done
Find where the water went. It runs under flooring, wicks up inside walls and drops into the crawl space. A crawl space that took on floodwater under a raised house is the part people most often miss.
Seal, then remove. Where growth has begun, the area is sealed with plastic first so removing the wet material does not spread it. Then the sheetrock, insulation, carpet and pad that cannot be saved come out bagged.
Clean and treat the structure. Studs, joists and subfloor are cleaned, vacuumed with filtered equipment and treated.
Dry against a meter. Dehumidifiers and air movers run, with readings taken every day, until the framing and subfloor are back to normal. In summer that typically takes three to five days.
Independent air test, then rebuild. Louisiana does not allow one company to both assess and remediate mold on the same property, so the clearance test comes from an independent assessor. Once it passes, sheetrock, insulation, flooring and paint go back, priced on their own line so the claim shows both numbers. See mold inspection and testing.
Insurance after a flood, a storm or a burst pipe
A burst pipe, a failed water heater or storm damage through the roof is the kind of sudden event many homeowner policies cover, and mold that follows directly from it is sometimes included, often with a limit. Water from outside, such as flash flooding or backed-up storm drains, is usually a flood claim and needs a flood policy. Sewer backup is a separate add-on on many policies. Your adjuster decides; the moisture readings, photos and scope are what help them decide.
What mold after a flood costs to fix in Shreveport
When it is caught early, extraction and drying run $1,200 to $3,500 for one room and $3,500 to $10,000 for a whole floor or a flooded crawl space. Once mold has started, remediation is added: typically $1,500 to $4,500 for one room and $2,500 to $15,000 for a crawl space, more where the water was contaminated because more material has to come out. The independent clearance test is typically $200 to $450. Every price on the site is on the mold removal cost page.
Prices on this page are estimates from previous work. We cannot quote an exact price. The actual cost can be lower or higher depending on the job. The person who knows is the professional who will do the work. You get a written quote after we see the house.

Mold after a flood or leak: what Shreveport homeowners ask
How long after a flood does mold start growing?
In Shreveport humidity, about 48 hours on wet sheetrock, wood and carpet pad. Inside that window it is usually still a dry-out; after it, the wet material that has started growing has to come out.
Call (318) 666-4874 or request a callback.
The house flooded a week ago and smells musty. Can the sheetrock be saved?
Sheetrock that has been wet for a week is usually cut out, typically to about a foot above the water line. The framing, subfloor and often the hardwood can be kept with cleaning, treatment and proper drying. The sooner the wet material is out, the more of the rest survives.

Will insurance cover mold after a burst pipe?
Often, when the pipe failure is a sudden covered event, and usually up to a limit. Outside floodwater needs a flood policy. Your adjuster decides; the cause, moisture readings and scope are what they will ask for.

Can I dry the house out with fans and the air conditioner?
Household fans only move air across the surface and leave the water inside walls and under floors. Running the AC through wet rooms can pull damp air and spores into the ducts. Metered drying with dehumidifiers is what stops mold from taking hold.

What happens if the crawl space flooded?
It has to be pumped out and dried like any other room, and it is the part most often forgotten. Wet insulation under the floor comes out and the joists are cleaned and treated. See crawl space mold removal.

Who tests the house after the work is done?
An independent assessor, not the remediation crew. Louisiana does not allow one company to both assess and remediate mold on the same property.

How long does post-flood mold remediation take?
Removal under containment usually takes a few days, and drying typically takes three to five days in summer, longer for crawl spaces and soaked hardwood. Rebuild time comes after the clearance test.
